Hi There!
It’s almost December, and I know many of you have already had snow where you live. Well, here in the desert, snow is pretty rare, so we have to find creative ways to enjoy a white Christmas or any holiday, for that matter! I usually hang a faux pine wreath on the door right after Thanksgiving, but it’s getting old an showing some serious wear and tear. So today, I thought I would do something completely different, and I made this Snowman Wreath instead.
If this looks familiar, it’s because the middle circle and the bottom circle were once part of a bunny wreath I made last spring. And, the largest circle went on to become a seashell wreath that was part of my summer mantel. So yes, we’re all about recycling here! I did have to buy a small wreath to make the head, but I used a coupon for that. If you don’t have any wreaths to make over, and you want to make a snowman wreath, you’ll need:
- 3 bamboo or grapevine wreath forms
- White spray paint
- 2 twigs for the arms
- Embroidery floss or yarn for the scarf
- Wood paint stirrer or thin wood for the hat
- Glue
- Craft paint
- Thin wire
I already had two bamboo wreaths, but I couldn’t find another one, so I bought a small grapevine wreath for the head. All three of them got a couple of coats of white spray paint.
I used very thin wire to attach the circles together, and I also used a dab of hot glue to keep them in place. Then, I made a loose bow out of the embroidery floss and found two long twigs for the arms. The twigs were part of a rustic bundle I bought last week and were already painted white, so that was easy.
I made the hat from a paint stirrer that Hubby cut into small pieces for me. I just glued the pieces together to form the shape of a hat.
I painted the hat black and added a little wooden star to one side. Then, I used hot glue to attach the hat to the snowman’s head, and voila — a snowman!
He doesn’t have eyes or a carrot nose or buttons, but he’s still a snowman, and my little desert dwellers were so excited to see him! I think they’re still on a bit of a Frozen high.
Have you built a snowman lately?
