Hi Friends! I have a very easy summer mason jar craft to share with you today. I actually made these last summer for a contributor post at PinkWhen, and since it’s almost summertime again, I thought it would be a good time to share them here.

Has a year really gone by? Yikes!

Anyway, we do a ton of grilling once warm weather hits, and meals are always casual. I usually serve the food on our kitchen island or on the patio, if it happens to be cool enough. I needed something to keep the utensils in, so I made these fruit-inspired summer mason jars that are perfect to use at picnics, cookouts and just about anywhere else.

They also add a nice pop of color to your kitchen counter!

I have a slight addiction to mason jars — I just love how they look! And they’re extremely versatile too. I’ve used both chalk paint and spray paint for different projects, but since these will be moved around a lot and may be used outside, I went for the spray paint method this time. Plus, I wanted a shiny finish.

Supplies for Painted Mason Jars

  • Mason jars
  • Red and yellow spray paint
  • Black Sharpie marker or any permanent marker
  • Green ribbon
  • Glue

I turned both mason jars upside down and painted one red and one yellow. The paint seems to work better with this method. When the jars were dry, I touched up the tops with more paint.

In warm weather, the paint dries quickly, so after a few minutes, I cut a green ribbon and glued it to the top of the jar. This resembles the watermelon rind, but I also used green on the yellow lemony jar too.

Then, I used my Sharpie marker to add the tear-shaped black seeds to the watermelon jar.

After that, they’re done, and the summer mason jars are now ready to be used for holding utensils, straws or anything else you can think of. I think they look so cute on the picnic table!

I think I’ll have to make some more summer mason jars this year. I really like the watermelon one the best, but it might be fun to make a variety of other fruit-inspired jars too.

Thanks so much for stopping by!
