We’re in the middle of Christmas decorating, and since I’m on a budge, I’ve got an easy Dollar Store decorating idea to show you. I bought a cheap plastic snowflake basket the other day, and I transformed it into a chic metallic tray with the help of some silver metallic spray paint!
I love decorating for Christmas, but I don’t like to spend a lot of money. I have a lot of people on my list, so that’s where the spending money goes! One of my favorite places to shop for holiday decor is the Dollar Store, but instead of using the merchandise as is, I love to transform it into something better.
One of my favorite ways to make things over is to use spray paint, especially the metallic finish variety. This stuff honestly makes plastic look like the real deal but for a lot, lot less!
I bought a couple of these white snowflake bowls, and I immediately took them home for a spray-paint makeover. They’re the perfect size for holding smaller items on end tables, side tables, book cases or wherever you need a little pop of color in a room.
I used Rust-Oleum Metallic Finish in silver, and it covered the plastic with only one coat. I didn’t even have to use a primer!
The fur boy had to come see what I was doing, and I think even he liked the result! Of course, when he realized there was no food involved, he ran off.
I painted both sides, and you honestly can’t tell that this was originally white plastic.
Then, I added a few red Christmas tree ornaments and some small pine cone vase filler.
The ornaments are from the Dollar Store, as well, but I bought them last year. They’ve held up very well, though. I usually have to buy more ornaments each year since we always seem to lose a few before the holidays are over.
How’s that for a super simple and super cheap Christmas decorating idea?! Now I have more money to spend on food and gifts, yea!
Thanks so much for stopping by!
