Easy No-Sew American Girl Doll Outfit

I can’t believe it, but the holiday season is just about here. I have an incredibly cute project to share with you today, and as much as I would love to take credit for this, my little Diva made the entire thing! Well, I suggested parts of it, but the Diva did almost all of the work. She loves her American Girl Dolls, but the accessories and outfits  can really add up. Somewhere, she got the idea to make an American Girl Doll outfit out of an old sock. Since, she didn’t want to cut up any of her own cute socks, her older sister generously donated her old soccer socks. Isn’t this cute?!

For this completely no-sew project, we used one junior-sized long athletic sock. When cut into three pieces, the sock forms a skirt, scarf and beret! You will also need a pair of scissors and some fancy foam stickers to jazz it up a bit. How easy is that?!

Start by cutting off the toe end–just use the stitching as a guide. Do NOT worry if it’s not a perfect line–you won’t see this, and the doll won’t mind! 

This end will be the waist of the skirt.

Next, cut the sock where the leg part begins. Again, it doesn’t have to be a perfect cut. This end will be the hem, and you can just roll it up.

Now, you have three different pieces. The foot part is for the skirt, the long leg part becomes the scarf and the tiny toe part becomes the beret. You can roll up the widest part of the skirt, and this will go over the doll’s waist. 

When you put the skirt on the doll, just roll up the hem. The athletic socks hold their shapes well, but if you want, you can also use hem tape. We didn’t worry about this because my little Diva was having fun with it, and I want her to learn to be creative before she begins worrying her creations being perfect.

After the doll was dressed, Miss Diva added the stickers. She chose snowflakes for the skirt and hat, and then she added a Christmas tree to the scarf. Because we had everything on hand, this was totally, completely free! Our model completes her outfit with a black tank top and very chic red shoes.
