Hi friends! The kids are on fall break this week, and I think we’ve made enough treats to last until Christmas. Well, maybe not that many, but my little guy did ask if we were opening up a bakery! So today, we made a pan of Fall Krispies Treats. These are so easy that the younger kids can do most of the work, and not only do these treats make for fun times during vacation, but they also make perfect on-the-go snacks for school.

One of the reasons the kids and I spend more time together in the kitchen during breaks is that we actually have some free time. When the kids are in school, their schedules are so full that there’s just not a lot of time for anything else. And, I’m always tired from driving them around,  helping with homework and just general mom stuff.

But still, the kiddos love coming home and finding something homemade waiting for them, and I’m told that their friends are always interested to see what goodies they have in their lunchboxes! That’s why I’m such a big fan of quick and easy treats!

We went shopping for baking supplies at Target the other day, and when the kids saw Rice Krispies cereal on display, they immediately asked to make Rice Krispies treats. You can also find Kellogg’s back-to-school packaging and on-pack offers on certain packages at Target, so be sure to check those out.

I’ve been making these treats for years, and I always decorate them a little differently, according to whatever season or holiday is coming up. I’ve even made chocolate peanut butter bars and Apple Jacks bars.

So for fall, I added some candy corn and fall sprinkles to the top of the treats.

My recipe is just a little bit different from the original, but I promise the results are just as good!

Ingredients for Fall Krispies Treats

  • 6 cups Rice Krispies cereal
  • 5 tablespoons butter
  • 1 10-ounce package of mini marshmallows
  • 1 tablespoon vanilla extract
  • Candy corn and fall sprinkles

Directions

In a large pan, melt the butter and the mini marshmallows over low to medium heat, stirring frequently.
When marshmallows are completely melted, remove pan from heat, and stir in vanilla extract.
Add the cereal, and stir until ingredients are fully combined
Press the cereal mixture into a buttered 13 X 9-inch baking dish, and top with candy corn and sprinkles.
Refrigerate for about 30 minutes or until cool, and cut into squares.
Enjoy!

You could probably add any candy you want, but since I pack these in the kids’ lunches, I didn’t want them to be too sweet.

And if you eat the krispies bars while they’re still a little warm, you get an ooey-gooey super stretchy treat!
