Easy Overnight Oats Recipe

Looking for a delicious and easy breakfast option? Try this make-ahead recipe for Maple Brown Sugar Overnight Oats. Just a few minutes of prep the night before and you’ll have a delicious and filling breakfast waiting for you in the morning. Seriously, it doesn’t get any easier than overnight oats. There’s no baking or cooking involved — Just mix, refrigerate, and eat!

Believe it or not, I’ve had to run back to school twice, yes twice, already to deliver lunch, water bottles and who knows what else! One kiddo even forgot lunch on the first day — sigh. Lucky for them, we live close!

Anyway, having a ready-to-eat, grab-and-go breakfast makes our crazy mornings so much easier. If your kids are anything like mine, you know what I mean! My youngest daughter is big on overnight oats recipes right now, and these easy maple brown sugar oats happen to be her latest creation.

Just like the name, they’re sweetened with plenty of maple syrup and brown sugar. I also like to add some banana slices and a drizzle of maple syrup over the top for even more flavor. They’re perfect for fall.

Ingredients

Here’s an overview of the simple ingredients you need. Full amounts are in the printable recipe card below.

  • Oats — I like quick oats for their softer texture. You can use old fashioned oats or rolled oats if you have them. Avoid steel-cut oats as they won’t get soft enough without cooking. Instant oats or oatmeal may get too soft overnight.
  • Plain yogurt — or Greek yogurt for extra protein
  • Milk — I use regular 2 percent milk. You can use any type of milk, including almond milk or oat milk or soy milk, although the flavor will be different
  • Brown sugar — either dark brown sugar or light, for added sweetness
  • Maple syrup — use pure maple syrup for that fall flavor

How to Make Maple Brown Sugar Overnight Oats

To make overnight oats, just combine all of the ingredients in a small or medium mixing bowl. Stir the oat mixture until it’s well combined. Then cover the bowl, and pop it into the refrigerator for at least 4 hours or overnight.

We like to put the brown sugar oatmeal into small mason jars because they are easy to carry. But, you can spoon the mixture into a bowl or mug.

You can add the bananas right before serving, or you can add them in before you refrigerate the oats. They don’t turn brown, so don’t worry about that! And if you don’t like bananas, add some diced apples or raisins, instead. Or, just eat the oats as is — nothing wrong with that at all!

Storage

Store the oats in an airtight container in your refrigerator for 4-5 days. If they get too thick, you can add a little more milk to thin them out.

  • ยฝ cup oats quick oats
  • ยฝ cup milk
  • ยผ cup plain yogurt
  • 3 tablespoons brown sugar
  • 2 tablespoons organic maple syrup

Instructions 

  • Add the oats, milk and yogurt to a small bowl, and mix well.
  • Stir in the brown sugar and maple syrup.
  • Pour evenly into two mason jars, and refrigerate for four hours or overnight
  • Top with banana slices or another fruit and extra maple syrup, if desired

We use quick oats as we prefer the softer texture, but you can use rolled oats if you prefer a chewier texture.
