This easy Simple Guacamole Recipe has only 4 ingredients and makes the best tortilla chip dip! It’s perfect for game day, parties or for a quick snack!
I almost didn’t post this guacamole recpt because I already have a recipe for spicy guacamole on the blog. Even though it’s a good recipe, we eat guac so often that I started making one that’s much, much easier. Any easier, and it would be pretty much mashed avocado!
Since my new favorite guacamole recipe is so simple, I really didn’t think about putting it on the blog. But truth is, I bought this uber cute white serving bowl with the phrase “It’s 5 o’guac somewhere” in it. Seriously, isn’t that the cutest thing?!
So you know I had to show off my new toy. I even kept the guac a little low just so that you could see the writing in the bowl!
How to make guacamole
Guacamole ingredients can vary with each recipe, but you definitely need ripe avocados and lime juice and sea salt. I won’t claim that I have the most authentic recipe for guacamole, but since I’m an Arizona native and a serious guac lover, I like to think I come close.
This guacamole recipe uses no tomato and is made without onions. I’m not a fan of tomatoes in guacamole, and although I do like onions, we’re keeping is super simple here.
How to pick a ripe avocado
If you’re buying avocados in advance, you can choose bright green, firm avocados and let them ripen over a couple of days. To make avocados ripen faster, either put them in a paper bag or let them hang out with a few ripe bananas for a day — works every time!
The best avocados for guacamole are
- Slightly firm but soft enough to press easily with your thumb
- Dark green in color
- Not too wrinkled or shrunken around stem
To make the guacamole, just slice the avocados open and remove the seeds. Then, score the cut avocados with a knife, scoop the insides out with a spoon and put them into a mixing bowl.
If you have a cute serving bowl, you can always mix everything right in there!
Squeeze the lime juice over the avocado, and mash with a fork. You can use a potato masher if you want a smoother texture.
Add the rest of the ingredients, mix well, and season with extra salt if you need to. And friends, that’s all there is to it!ย I usually add cilantro, but I’m listing it as an optional ingredient here because some of the kids don’t like it and you can eat guac without it!
