If you’re looking for an easy bread recipe without yeast, you’re going to love this recipe for homemade beer bread. It’s super simple and absolutely delicious!

I’m not a beer drinker, but I love using it recipes! If you like cooking with beer, check out Instant Pot Beer Ribs, Instant Pot Corned Beef and Cabbage, and Instant Pot Carnitas.

Basic Beer Bread

Beer bread has been around for awhile. It’s a quick bread, so there’s no yeast, no kneading and no rising time.

If you’re not familiar with the basic recipe, it’s just beer, sugar and self rising flour or all purpose flour with baking powder and salt. Melted butter poured over the top adds texture and buttery flavor to the crust.

Plain beer bread, if you can even call it that, is delicious enough on its own. I wanted to add a little extra flavor, so I threw in a couple of tablespoons of dried rosemary. Not only does rosemary add flavor, but it also makes your house smell amazing!

How to Make Rosemary Beer Bread

First, add the flour, baking powder and sea salt to a large mixing bowl, and give it a quick stir. Then, add the sugar, and pour in the beer.

You don’t have to sift the flour. But I personally do sometimes as I think it makes the bread a little lighter.

Note that if you are using self rising flour, just add sugar. Self rising flour already has salt and baking powder.

Best Beer for Bread

Any beer will work for making beer bread. So, use your favorite beer or whatever you have at home.

We had some Blue Moon, so that’s what I used this time. And don’t worry about the alcohol — it evaporates during the baking process, so beer bread is safe for the entire family!

No Knead Bread

You don’t need to knead the bread or mix super well. Just mix the ingredients until everything is combined.

The batter will be sticky. This is normal, though, so don’t worry!

Spoon the dough into a buttered loaf pan. You can use baking spray, but the butter gives it more flavor.

Now, melt some butter. Then, pour it all over the top!

Sprinkle more dried rosemary over the top. Now, you’re ready to bake it!

It only takes about 50 minutes to bake the beer bread. If your oven tends to run hot, you might want to check it at 45 minutes.

And friends, this rosemary bread smells amazing while it bakes! You’re going to be drooling in anticipation!

Let the Bread Rest

I know it’s hard, but you need to let the bread rest and cool down a little before you slice into it. Wait about 15 minutes or so, and then remove the bread onto a cutting board.

It should pop out easily. Then, slice it up, and serve with butter or enjoy the bread as it is.

How to Store Leftover Beer Bread

We gobble up the bread in one sitting — we’re bad that way. But you can store beer bread in a tightly-covered container or zip top bag for a few days. Keep it on the counter and not in the fridge.

Flavour is amazing but mine turned out quite crumbly? What did I do wrong?4 stars

    1. Dee says:

It’s hard to say without knowing exactly what happened. Usually, crumbly bread results from not enough liquid or over baking.

Has anyone tried using fresh rosemary instead of dried? How much fresh = 2 TBSP dry?
