If you’re an Oreo lover or you know an Oreo lover, you have to try these cookies n’ cream cookies. They are amazingly delicious and loaded with everyone’s favorite sandwich cookies, chocolate chunks, white chocolate chips and semi sweet chocolate chips.

My daughter perfected this Oreo chocolate chip cookie recipe over the summer, and it is now one of my family’s favorite cookie recipes.

This is an easy cookie recipe that is very similar to classic chocolate chip cookies. Actually, it’s basically our favorite chocolate chip cookies, only better!

I’ll show you how to make the perfect cookie with step by step instructions. You can find the complete recipe below in the recipe card.

oreos, flour, sugar, brown sugar, baking soda, baking powder, eggs, butter, vanilla, salt and chocolate

Ingredients

You only need a few basic ingredients for these delicious cookies. They should be available in your local grocery stores.

  • Oreos — regular Oreo cookies or your favorite flavor
  • Baker’s German sweet chocolate bar — Or any chocolate bar
  • All purpose flour
  • Baking powder
  • Baking soda
  • Cinnamon
  • Salt
  • Butter — We use room temperature salted butter, but unsalted butter is fine, too.
  • White sugar
  • Brown sugar — either dark brown sugar or light brown sugar works
  • Vanilla extract
  • Eggs
  • White chocolate chips
  • Semi sweet chocolate chips

How to Make Oreo Chocolate Chip Cookies

First, start out by chopping the chocolate bar and the Oreo cookies into smaller pieces. Don’t chop them too fine – just large chunks or bite size pieces are fine.

Then, sift the dry ingredients in a large mixing bowl. Set it aside.

Next, cream the butter with an electric mixer in a separate bowl until soft and fluffy.

You can also use a stand mixer for this step. Gradually add the brown sugar, white sugar and vanilla extract, and beat until smooth.

Add the eggs, one at a time, beating after each egg. Then, gradually add the flour mixture, and mix well.

You can use a hand mixer or wooden spoon. Just don’t over mix the dough.

Using a rubber spatula or wooden spoon, mix the chopped Oreos, white and semi sweet chocolate chips and the chocolate chunks into the chocolate chip cookie dough with the spatula or spoon.

Then, place the cookie dough into the refrigerator to chill. Let the dough rest for at least 15 minutes. Preheat the oven to 350 degrees f while the dough is chilling.

Line cookie sheets with parchment paper. You can also use aluminum foil or silicone baking sheets.

Use a large cookie scoop to scoop balls of dough onto the cookie sheets. Keep the cookie dough balls about 2 inches apart.

If you don’t have a cookie scoop, just drop 2 tablespoons of dough on the lined baking sheet.

Place the remaining Oreo pieces on top of the dough balls. If you really love chocolate, then you can also add extra chocolate chips on top too.

Cook Time

Place the cookie sheet on the middle rack in the preheated oven. Bake cookies for 10 to 12 minutes.

The edges should be slightly firm and a light golden brown. Do not over bake.

Place the cookies on a cooling rack, where they will firm up.

How to Store

Keep these chewy cookies in an airtight container at room temperature. They should stay fresh for up to 4 days. Pro tip — We like to add a slice of bread to the container or freeze bag. It really does help homemade cookies stay fresh!

You can freeze the cookies for longer storage — they freeze very well!

Substitutions

You can use mini Oreos in place of larger ones. To make crushed Oreo cookies, add some crushed Oreos for a different texture.

If you don’t want the extra chocolate, you can omit the chocolate bar.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do you have to chill cookie dough?

Yes. Chilling the dough helps prevent the cookies from spreading too much in the oven and becoming flat.

How do you keep cookies soft?

The best way to keep cookies soft is to let them cool completely and store them in an airtight container with a slice of bread. The cookies will absorb moisture from the bread. Also, don’t over bake the cookies.

Can you make the cookie dough in advance?

Yes, you can! You can cover the dough bowl with plastic wrap, and let it rest in the fridge for up to 3 days. You can also scoop the dough into balls and freeze the dough balls in a freezer bag for up to six months.
