Ingredients
You only need a few simple ingredients for this Dunkaroo dip recipe. They should be easy to find in your grocery store or online.
- A box of Funfetti cake mix
- Cool Whip — I prefer regular Cool Whip over light Cool Whip
- Vanilla Yogurt — Use regular yogurt. Greek yogurt is a little too thick
- Rainbow sprinkles — use your favorite sprinkles
- Vanilla extract — adds more flavor, but isn’t absolutely necessary
How to Make Dunkaroo Dip
First, you will need to heat treat the raw cake mix. This step is necessary to get rid of any harmful bacteria in the raw flour. Spread the dry cake mix evenly onto a rimmed baking sheet lined with parchment paper or aluminum foil
Bake the cake mix in a 350 degree f oven for 5 minutes or until it reaches 165 degrees f. Or, microwave the cake mix in 30-second increments, stirring after each increment for a total of 1-2 minutes, or until the cake mix reaches 165 degrees.
Stir the treated cake mix, and allow to cool completely. Now, you can assemble the dip!
Add the vanilla yogurt to a large mixing bowl. Stir in the vanilla extract until well combined.
Next, add the cake mix and mix with a large spoon or hand mixer until well blended.
Stir in the rainbow sprinkles, and mix again.
Next, gently fold in the thawed whipped topping, and mix until the ingredients are well blended.
The Funfetti cake dip is rich and thick. If you want a thinner dip, you can add a tablespoon or 2 of milk or heavy cream.
How to Store
Cover the dip with plastic wrap or place in an airtight container in your refrigerator until ready to serve.
Store any leftover cake batter dip in an airtight container for up to 4 days. I don’t recommend freezing the dip.
What to serve with Cake Batter Dip
Serve this delicious dip with your favorite dippers! My kids love animal crackers, circus crackers, graham crackers, Teddy Grahams and vanilla wafers.
This also makes a delicious fruit dip for fresh fruit. We love fresh strawberries, apple slices and pineapple slices!
Variations
If you can’t find Funfetti cake mix or another brand of cake mix with sprinkles, use a box of white cake mix and add more colorful sprinkles to the mixture.
Make Funfetti dip with frosting if you can’t find the yogurt. You can use vanilla frosting or Dunkaroo frosting.
Make Funfetti dip with pudding in place of the yogurt. Be sure you are using ready made pudding and not the dry mix.
No, you should never eat raw cake mix. Always heat treat the cake mix before using it in any recipe that does not require baking to get rid of any harmful bacteria. Either bake it or microwave it until the raw cake mix reaches a temperature of 165 f.
No. Cool whip is stabilized imitation whipped cream or whipped topping. It holds its shape well in dessert recipes, keeping them light and fluffy. If you want to use real whipped cream in a recipe that calls for Cool Whip, make stabilized whipped cream, instead.

This dip is killer as a layer in a birthday cake instead of frosting!
Oh, That sounds like a great idea!
This dip was to die for! Made it for an office potluck, and it was gone in five minutes. Safe to say Iโll be making it again!
I actually just made this today and it was super easy!! I ate a lot of it myself haha but I want to make it again for an upcoming birthday party because the sprinkles are so cute and I think that everyone can enjoy this. I would recommend this dip to people like me who like cute fun treats but arenโt big bakers!!
So glad you liked it, Ashleigh. Thanks!
We just made this today! The grandkids could barely wait for it to set up before digging in! They want to make it again already!
