Easy Homemade Dog Treats

We have been making homemade dog food for our pups for awhile now. We even make them homemade birthday cakes! So when it became difficult to find their favorite frozen treats at the store, we decided to start making our own frozen treats for dogs using this super easy recipe.

These peanut butter and banana dog treats are much healthier than what you get at the store because they are all natural, with no preservatives and made with only three ingredients. All you do is mix the ingredients together, pour them into a mold and freeze until solid. Super easy, and our pups absolutely love them!

Ingredients

Here’s a quick list of what you need to make homemade peanut butter dog treats. Full amounts are in the printable recipe card at the bottom of the post.

  • Peanut butter — I use Skippy natural peanut butter, but you can use any brand. Just make sure it doesn’t contain xylitol or other artificial sweeteners, since dogs can’t have these. Creamy peanut butter works best.
  • Ripe banana
  • Canned Pumpkin puree — Look for pure pumpkin and not pumpkin pie filling.

You will also need a mold of some sort. We first used a small candy mold, but you can find some cute dog-themed molds online. Or, use a muffin tin or mini muffin tin to form the treats!

How to Make Homemade Peanut Butter Banana Dog Treats

First, mash the banana in a medium mixing bowl. Try to make it as smooth as possible, but it’s fine if there are a few small lumps.

mash banana with fork.

Then, add the peanut butter and pumpkin, and mix until well blended.

stir peanut butter mixture in bowl.

Finally, spoon the mixture into the molds. I have a paw print mold and a dog bone mold that are rather small. We found that it is easiest to use a piping bag for these, but you can definitely use a small spoon.

Pop the PB banana treats into the freezer until they are frozen. This takes around 4-6 hours. I usually make a batch to freeze overnight so the pups can enjoy these no bake treats the next day. They will actually sit by the fridge to request their favorite treats!

Storage

Store the treats in an airtight container in the freezer. They keep for 3 months, although they probably won’t last that long!

Recipe Tip

Use a muffin tin or mini muffin tin to form the treats if you can’t find the silicone molds. The recipe can easily be doubled.
