Hey There!
My kids are on spring break this week, so they have a little bit of time on their hands. The little Diva has been bugging me to help her learn to sew, and this week, she took matters into her own hands and made these cute felt cases.
Anyone who knows me knows that I don’t sew –at all. End of story. Period! If you’ve been following this blog, you may be familiar with our American Girl Doll sock outfits, which we started making because I don’t sew. But, my daughter was ready for more difficult tasks, and she really wanted to learn the fine art of sewing.
So, I did what any good mom would do: I helped her find YouTube channels for sewing lessons, and I bought her some needles and thread. Before I could even help her get started, she surprised me with this tablet case!
She used some felt and stitched the pieces together with black thread. The stitches aren’t perfect, but this is a total mommy brag, and I think this little sewing-newbie did a fantastic job.
Of course, she had to add a little bling to make this case shine. After I admired her work, my little seamstress made me a case for my phone.
I was completely blown away by this girl’s effort, but I’m also proud that she did this project on her own. This is why I believe it is so important to encourage kids to be creative. I also like to think that the time I spend doing DIY projects and crafts actually pays off in the end, in more ways than one.
If any of you know of great sewing tutorials for kids, please send them my way! If my daughter learns to sew, maybe she’ll teach me!
Thanks so much for visiting. Have an awesome day!
Dee
