Ingredient Notes
There are only 5 simple ingredients in this creamy dip. Here’s a quick rundown — full amounts are in the printable recipe card below.
- Brownie Mix — Use your favorite boxed brownie mix. I love Ghirardelli brownie mix, but anyone should work.
- Cream cheese — a block of softened cream cheese at room temperature for easy mixing.
- Cool Whip — Thawed, or any whipped topping to make this dip nice and fluffy.
- Milk — to thin the dip out a little. I use 2 percent milk. You can also use whole milk or heavy cream
- Mini chocolate chips — for extra chocolate flavor
How to Make Brownie Batter Dip
First, you will need to heat treat the box of brownie mix to make sure the raw flour is safe to eat. Either bake the mix at 350 degrees or microwave the mix until it reaches 165 degrees.
Add the mix to a large bowl — make sure it’s a microwave safe bowl, and heat in 30-second intervals, stirring after each interval, until it reaches 165 degrees. This process took about 1 minute 30 seconds for me. Allow the brownie mix to cool down.
You can stir the mix to help speed up the process, but it shouldn’t take long. Then, in a separate large mixing bowl, add the block of cream cheese, and mix with an electric mixer or hand mixer until smooth and creamy. Mix in the milk. Add the brownie mix to the cream cheese mixture, and mix until well combined.
When the cream cheese mixture is fully combined, gently fold in the Cool Whip. Mix well, until the brownie mixture is smooth and creamy. You can smoosh out any lumps of mix with a spatula. Make sure you scrape the sides of the bowl to get all of that chocolatey goodness! Finally, fold in the chocolate chips.
Add your favorite sprinkles and more mini chocolate chips to the top of the dip before serving!
Storage
Store brownie dip in an airtight container or in the mixing bowl covered with plastic wrap in your refrigerator until you are ready to serve. You can make this dip a day ahead of time, although it is creamiest the day you make it. Leftover chocolate brownie dip keeps fresh for up to 4 days. This dip does not freeze well!
Recipe Tips and Variations
I used a boxed brownie mix in this recipe for ease, but you can use your favorite homemade brownie mix if you have one.
For extra chocolate flavor, you can mix in a teaspoon of cocoa powder. Add a teaspoon of peppermint extract and crushed candy canes during the holidays for peppermint brownie dip!
You can use homemade whipped cream instead of whipped topping, although you’ll need to add powdered sugar or brown sugar for sweetness.
Top with your favorite festive sprinkles, mini m & m candies, mini chocolate eggs or, mini marshmallows, white chocolate chips or Reese’s pieces.
What to Serve with Chocolate Brownie Dip
Serve your favorite dippers with this delicious chocolate dip. We love to use a variety of dippers like graham crackers, vanilla wafers, Oreo cookies, chocolate chip cookies, pretzels and animal crackers.
