Spicy Garlic Cheese Bread

My family is crazy about anything with garlic and cheese. The cheesier, the better! So, when I make this garlic cheese bread with jalapenos, there’s never any left! I usually make this spicy cheesy garlic bread recipe as an appetizer during football season, but I have also served it as a side dish with pasta.

This easy recipe is a delicious way to kick up your basic garlic bread, and it’s easier than making garlic pull-apart bread. If you love heat, try my jalapeño popper dip, jalapeno popper wonton cups or jalapeno cranberry dip or these delicious jalapeno sausage muffins next!

Ingredients

Here’s a quick overview of what you need to make this simple recipe. Full amounts are in the printable recipe card below.

  • French bread — choose a long loaf for more slices or a shorter loaf for fewer servings.
  • Butter — I always use salted butter, but you can use unsalted if you prefer.
  • Olive oil — combines with the butter to make the spread
  • Garlic clove — minced
  • Jalapeno pepper — Diced and a few slices for the top of the bread
  • Garlic powder — for maximum garlic flavor
  • Cheese — a blend of shredded cheddar and mozzarella

How to Make Cheesy Jalapeno Garlic Bread

First, you’ll make the garlic butter. Just melt a stick of butter on the stove, along with the olive oil, chopped pepper and minced garlic. I like to let it simmer for a bit to extract as much flavor as possible.

Next, slice the loaf of bread in half, lengthwise. Place it on a baking sheet, and spread both sides with the garlic butter mixture.

brush French bread with butter mixture.

Sprinkle the shredded cheese on top of the bread. Then, place the sliced jalapenos evenly on top of the cheese.

Bake for 15 minutes or until the cheese is melted. The crust will be nice and crispy. If you want a softer crust, you can bake at a lower temperature for a little longer.

Storage

If you do have leftovers, store them in an airtight container in the refrigerator. The bread keeps for 3-4 days. For best results, reheat the bread on low heat in the oven. You can even freeze this cheesy bread for up to 3 months.

Recipe Tip

You can add more cheese for an even cheesier bread. Broil for a few seconds at the end if you want a crispier top.
