Celebrate your graduate’s accomplishments with these cute and easy-to-make chocolate graduation caps treats! They are perfect graduation treats for any stage — kindergarten graduation, middle school grads, high school graduation or college grads and above!
I have been making these super cute candy graduation hats for years, but because graduation time is always busy, I have never had the chance to put them on the blog. Since we have 2 class of 2024 graduations to attend this year, I’m getting a head start, and I finally have the chance to share this super easy dessert recipe!
You can serve these candy graduation caps as is or use them as graduation cupcake toppers. If you’re looking for more graduation party desserts, try my summer beach party cupcakes or easy flip flop cookies!
Ingredients Needed
You only need a few simple ingredients from the grocery store for this easy graduation dessert. Full amounts and video are in the printable recipe card below.
- Reese’s Miniature Cups — or any small peanut butter cups. You can sub Rolo candies if desired.
- Chocolate squares — I use Ghirardelli dark chocolate squares, but any brand or flavor of chocolate, including white chocolate, will work.
- Vanilla frosting — To assemble the hats and for the tassels. I like vanilla because you can tint the frosting to match your school’s colors.
- Mini M&M’s candies — to make the button on the top of the caps. You can also scatter some candies on the dessert table for an extra pop of color!
- Food coloring — to tint the frosting
How to Make Chocolate Graduation Caps Treats
First, place the peanut butter cups, tops down, on a wax paper-lined baking sheet. Use a piping bag to pip a dab of frosting in the center of each peanut butter cup.
Next, place a chocolate square on top of the frosting. Press down, gently to “glue'” the candy square on the peanut butter cup. Then, make the tassels by piping frosting on top of each chocolate square.
Finally, place a mini m and m candy on top of each tassel. Press lightly to “glue” the candy to the frosting. We used brown candies to match the chocolate, but you can use different colors.
Storage
Store these Reese’s graduation caps in an airtight container. I recommend keeping them in the refrigerator. The caps should keep for about 2 weeks, although the frosting tends to dry out. I don’t recommend freezing them as the chocolate may change color.
Recipe Tip
Let the caps set in the fridge for at least an hour before serving.
Use a piping bag or toothpick or sharp knife to add the dab of frosting and tassel. You can also use candy, such as Twizzlers or Air Heads Xtremes to make the tassels.
