DIY Chocolate Sugar Scrub is made with all natural ingredients and leaves your skin super soft. Plus, it smells amazing and makes a wonderful gift, too!
I haven’t made any new sugar scrubs since Christmas, but this dry winter air is really doing a number on my skin, and moisturizers alone just don’t cut it. The girls have also been complaining of dry, itchy skin, so I decided it was definitely time to make another kind of moisturizing scrub.
Since it’s February and Valentine’s Day is around the corner, I thought it would be the perfect time to make chocolate sugar scrub.
Actually, if you love chocolate as much as I do, anytime is a good time to make chocolate sugar scrub!
Basic sugar scrubs consist of sugar, oil and usually a fragarance or essential oil. This one is just slightly different.
For this scrub, I used a combination of granulated sugar and brown sugar. Since this scrub is all about the chocolate, I wanted the darker color and deeper scent of the brown sugar. But, it didn’t really have the firmer consistency I wanted.
So, I did a little experimenting, and I found that a combination of white and brown sugar was perfect for this scrub. Then, add some cocoa powder, coconut oil and vanilla, and you’re good to go!
How to Make Chocolate Sugar Scrub
DIY Chocolate Sugar Scrub
Ingredients
- ยฝ cup white sugar
- ยฝ cup brown sugar
- ยฝ cup coconut oil
- 1 tablespoon cocoa powder
- ยฝ teaspoon vanilla extract
Instructions
- Mix all ingredients together until fully incorporated
- Spoon into a half-pint jar or smaller jars
The girls and I tried this chocolate sugar scrub out, and we absolutely loved it. Seriously, if you want a chocolate fix without the calories, you have to try this! It smells amazing, and it’s almost good enough to eat. Well since it’s all natural, you could probably taste a tiny bit, but it’s better if you just use it topically!
You could even add other scents if you want, but personally, I love the vanilla. I might try a chocolate peppermint combo for Christmas, though!
And this would be an amazing gift for your sweetie on Valentine’s Day!
Happy Crafting!

Can you substitute the sugar with salt?
Yes. You can make a salt scrub, instead. ๐
How do you keep the coconut oil fragrance from over powering the other oils?
Natural coconut oil really doesn’t have a strong coconut scent, so all you smell is the fragrance oils. ๐
LOVED IT WITH THE PEPPERMINT ESSENTIAL OIL!! PERFECT CHRISTMAS GIFT!
Just made my second batch of this. It is so yummy! I love how it leaves my skin and how it smells. I featured it on my blog here:

I’m so glad to hear that, AnnMarie. My girls and I can’t get enough of this! ๐
Dee! So glad that AnnMarie mentioned your scrub. It looks great! Your site looks fabulous, too and I love your pretty profile picture! Going to have to visit more often. Hope all is well! ~ Kim
Aww, thanks so much, Kim! I absolutely love this scrub — it’s one of our faves! ๐ Great to hear from you, too!
Do you melt the coconut oil first, or do you blend at room temperature?
If it’s too solid, I melt it, but when it’s warm, it’s practically liquid anyway, and I use it straight from the jar.
My daughter loves to make sugar scrubs. I will have to share this recipe with her. Body scrubs always make my skin feel amazing. #merrymonday
Mine too, and my girls love them just as much as I do. ๐
I just got right up and made this when I saw it! I was just thinking that I need to find a body scrub recipe and here it is! Can’t wait to use it in the shower tomorrow morning. Thanks! Pinned!
Thanks! I hope you like it as much as we do. ๐
I can only imagine how good this would smell! Do you know how long it lasts in the jar? I can imagine it not lasting long once it’s open, but I’m looking for a homemade gift for my bridesmaids and am curious how far in advance I could make it.
We usually use the scrubs up in a month or two, and I’ve never had any problem with the quality, even when open. I would say to keep them in a cool, dry place, tightly covered, and I should think you can make them a couple of months in advance, if not more. Congrats! ๐
This looks really nice! Love that little jar too โฅ

Thanks so much, Summer. We just love this! ๐
Mine got really hard. How can I avoid that?
Was it covered? You can always add a little more oil to soften it back up. ๐
I just got done making this it seems watery when it sits does it come a little solid and mine is a dark chocolate brown is that how it is when you first make it ?
It should get firmer, but you can always add more sugar to firm it up. ๐
