Easy Avocado Crab Dip is cool, creamy and takes only a few minutes to make. Serve it with your favorite crackers for an appetizer that everyone loves!
I was searching for a quick and easy appetizer to make for a cookout we had over the weekend, and I came upon this easy cold crab dip among my grandma’s old recipes. I’ve been finding so many wonderful recipes in her collection, and this delicious dip is no exception!
This is another vintage recipe, just like the cucumber dill dip and the tropical fruit dip that I’ve already shared on the blog, only it’s a little bit heartier because it’s loaded with crab meat.
So, instead of just dipping in fresh fruit or veggies, you can scoop up a generous portion using your favorite crackers or breadsticks. Or, you can spread a little dip between two crackers and make avocado crab dip sandwiches, which is what the kids did — yum!
You can whip up this avocado crab dip in just a few minutes, and the ingredients are simple, too. I made a few changes to the original recipe, but I’m pretty sure that my version tastes a lot like the original.
Basically, I omitted the MSG — yikes! I know it was commonly used in many older recipes, but you definitely don’t need it. I also used lime juice instead of lemon, since I think lime goes perfectly with avocado. The original called for Worcestershire sauce, but I forgot to pick that up, and I used soy sauce, instead.
I think the dip tastes fine as it, but if you have the Worcestershire on hand, go ahead and try that. I plan on picking some up next time I’m at the store, but really, the soy works well here.
Oh, I also used imitation crab since a pound of the real thing is pretty darn pricey, but if that’s not an issue, use the real stuff if you prefer. As much as I love crab meat, I think the imitation works just fine in a dip like this. And since this dip went fast, I’m guessing nobody minded!

Hello!
This looks so delicious! I am planning on making it for a Hawaiian 4th of July party this week. Can I make it before hand and the avocados in it not turn brown? I am just trying to plan if I can make it at home or I should wait until I get to the party. Thank you!
The lime juice helps preserve the avocados, so it should be fine to make it before you leave. I think I had some left over the last time I made it, and it was even good the next day. 🙂
We will love this yummy dip! Thanks so much for sharing your awesome post with us at Full Plate Thursday. Hope you are having a great week and come back to see us real soon!
