If you have a variety of tropical fruit at your house, you can make this easy fruit salad recipe in just a few minutes. With its colorful mix of pineapples and delicious tropical flavors, this is the best fruit salad for summer.

This easy side dish goes well with burgers, steaks, grilled chicken, fish and just about everything else! It also doubles as a healthy dessert or healthy snack during warmer weather!

The nice thing about this summer fruit salad, like our Watermelon, Feta and Blueberry Salad and Marshmallow Fruit Salad, is that it’s so easy to prepare, and the kids can help with the prep work.ย Even the younger ones can help wash the fruit, slice bananas or peel the mandarin oranges.

Of course, they like to nibble as they work — who doesn’t? So, I just have to make sure there is enough fruit left over to go into the salad!

What Fruit Goes in this Salad

I use our favorite tropical fruits in this colorful salad, combined with some of our favorite summer fruit.

  • Fresh Pineapple — make this easy salad easier and buy cut up fruit from your local grocery store
  • Fresh Kiwis
  • Mandarin oranges
  • Ripe Bananas
  • Fresh Strawberries
  • Blueberries

You will also need a lime for the lime juice and honey to make the simple dressing for this fresh fruit salad recipe.

How to Make Tropical Fruit Salad with Honey Lime Dressing

blueberries and pineapple chunks in white bowl

Wash the fruit, and carefully cut the pineapple into small chunks. Peel the fuzzy skin off the kiwi fruit, and slice it thin.

I use as much fresh fruit as I can. But sometimes, I’ll buy a package of cut fruit from the store — think pineapple! Then, add the cut pieces of fruit to a large bowl.

The dressing for this easy tropical fruit salad recipe is super simple. I make an easy honey lime dressing for extra flavor. This simple fruit salad dressing also helps keep the bananas from turning brown.

Of course, you can leave the dressing off and just enjoy the natural sweetness of the ripe fruit.  If I don’t have a lemon or lime, I serve it as is and just add one banana to the top.

Pour the dressing over the cut fruit, and gently mix until it’s well coated. Then, pop the salad into the fridge until you’re ready to serve it.

You’ve got to love how healthy and colorful this salad is! This is one salad that even my pickiest eaters eat without complaints!

You can use a variety of fresh tropical fruits and sweet fruits in this tropical salad. Star fruit, passion fruit, dragon fruit, ripe mangos, cantaloupe are all great additions. Just use your favorite fruit.

If you don’t have a lime, you can use lemon juice or orange juice in the dressing. You can also add poppy seeds or use store bought poppy seed dressing in this colorful rainbow salad.

If you like coconut, sprinkle shredded coconut or toasted coconut over the salad before serving.

Recipe FAQ

How long does fresh fruit salad last in the fridge?

This salad should last about 2-3 days before the fruit gets too soft. The dressing should help to preserve the bananas, but they turn mushy after a day or two.

Can I cut up fruit for salad the night before?

Yes, you can. Just keep the cut fruit in an airtight container or storage bags in the refrigerator. Add the banana the next day right before serving for best results.
