- butter or olive oil for frying
- ½ medium onion about 1 cup, diced
- 1 medium green bell pepper seeded and diced
- 1 ½ pounds lean ground beef
- ½ cup ketchup
- 1 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
- 1 teaspoon mustard
- 1 teaspoon sea salt
- 1 teaspoon garlic powder
- ½ teaspoon black pepper
- 3 slices white American cheese
- 6 slices Mozzarella cheese or Provolone cheese
- 6 hamburger buns
Cook the pepper and onion in melted butter or olive oil in a large skillet on medium high heat until soft
Add ground beef, and cook until no longer pink, breaking up with a spatula. Drain grease if needed
Add the salt, pepper, garlic powder, ketchup, mustard, Worcestershire sauce, and stir until well combined
Reduce heat to low, and stir in the American cheese until melted
Serve on sandwich buns and top with Mozzarella cheese
You can add a little water or beef broth if you want more sauce or if the mixture seems dry.
Use your favorite cheese here -- or Cheez Whiz if you prefer that. You can toast the buns or leave them un-toasted.
