Ingredients

  • butter or olive oil for frying
  • ½ medium onion about 1 cup, diced
  • 1 medium green bell pepper seeded and diced
  • 1 ½ pounds lean ground beef
  • ½ cup ketchup
  • 1 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 teaspoon mustard
  • 1 teaspoon sea salt
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • ½ teaspoon black pepper
  • 3 slices white American cheese
  • 6 slices Mozzarella cheese or Provolone cheese
  • 6 hamburger buns

Instructions

  • Cook the pepper and onion in melted butter or olive oil in a large skillet on medium high heat until soft
  • Add ground beef, and cook until no longer pink, breaking up with a spatula. Drain grease if needed
  • Add the salt, pepper, garlic powder, ketchup, mustard, Worcestershire sauce, and stir until well combined
  • Reduce heat to low, and stir in the American cheese until melted
  • Serve on sandwich buns and top with Mozzarella cheese

Notes

You can add a little water or beef broth if you want more sauce or if the mixture seems dry.
Use your favorite cheese here -- or Cheez Whiz if you prefer that. You can toast the buns or leave them un-toasted.
